City of Colleyville approves budget, taxes

Colleyville City Council unanimously approved the city's proposed $39.5 million budget for fiscal year 2014–15.

The city council approved $24 million for its Capital Improvement Program with a 6-1 vote, with councilman Chris Putnam voting against.

During the city's monthly council meeting Sept. 16, Mayor Pro Tem Mike Taylor said he thought the city did an excellent job with the budget, especially with making sure expenditures do not outweigh revenue.

The council also approved the proposed property tax rate of $0.3559 per $100 of valuation. The tax rate exceeds the effective tax rate of $0.349586 but has not increased from last year's tax rate.

The effective tax rate is the rate needed to raise the same amount of tax revenue as the previous fiscal year.

Mayor David Kelly said the property tax rate has not changed in eight years.

The budget will be effective at the beginning of the fiscal year Oct. 1 and will end Sept. 30, 2015.

The council also considered appointments to the Historical Preservation Committee, Library Board, Metroport Teen Court Advisory Board, Planning and Zoning Commission, Senior Center Advisory Committee and Zoning Board of Adjustment.
