The Southlake Police Department will have school resource officers at every Carroll ISD campus this year, a response in part to the 2012 shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut.
The City Council was told at its Aug. 6 meeting that there were initially 54 applicants for the jobs, created as a result of a citywide task force led by Mayor John Terrell that convened after the Sandy Hook shootings.
Southlake Police Department has three school resource officers who were already in schools: Blas Hernandez at Carroll Senior High; Allen Smith, Carroll High and Brett Wilson, Carroll Middle School.
