Classic Chevrolet in Grapevine will begin construction to repurpose an existing warehouse to become an automotive repair garage.
During a joint meeting with the Grapevine Planning and Zoning Commission on June 16, Grapevine City Council unanimously approved the request for a conditional use permit from Classic Chevrolet representatives to renovate the warehouse facility located at 2200 William D. Tate Ave.

Classic Chevrolet officials submitted a conditional use permit to turn the empty 180,274-square-foot warehouse into a repair garage with 121 service bays. An additional 110,958 square feet for an indoor and outdoor vehicle staging area will also be retrofitted, according to city documents.
Classic Chevrolet Vice President Bently Durant said that repurposing the warehouse has been part of a years-long effort to find a space with air conditioning for Chevrolet employees to work during the Texas summers.
“We’re going from about 60 bays on our main site and relocating all service work on our main Chevrolet site over to this site,” Durant said. “So it’s all under air conditioning.”
By increasing from 60 to 121 service bays, Durant said the company can continue to expand its technician staff to meet growing sales demands.
“With 120 bays, we can grow to 80 technicians," Durant said. “We’re recruiting them directly out of the Grapevine High School shop programs and the surrounding high school shop programs.”
Durant said the demand for car services is high, and moving into a larger space is Classic Chevrolet‘s answer to shorter wait times for customers.
Classic Chevrolet also intends to utilize a portion of the existing warehouse as a car wash dedicated to vehicle servicing and delivery preparation.
Looking forward
The new service bay is expected to welcome customers starting in December, Durant said.
