Grapevine City Council has approved the replacement of pumps at Meadowmere Park and the Wastewater Treatment plant.
Council approved the replacement and approved hiring a firm to assist with preconstruction planning for the raw water pump station during its Oct. 6 meeting.
The details
The council approved the $18,425 purchase of a replacement waste pump for treatment Train 3 at the Wastewater Treatment Plant. The council previously planned separate improvements on the treatment trains which were estimated to cost around $13 million.
A construction manager at risk was also hired to help plan the relocation and improvements of the Water Treatment Plant raw water pump station for an estimated $25,000. The construction manager at risk assists with preconstruction work like scheduling, performance maximization and developing a Guaranteed Maximum Price for the project, according to the city.
The project will replace the existing raw water pump station and combine it with the golf course raw water pump station. It also includes the addition of an emergency generator and demolition of the old raw water pump station.
The primary reason for the relocation was the erosion of the bank and bedrock below the existing building, which was constructed around the 1980s, according to the city.
Related highlights
The city will also pay $47,778 for the purchase and installation of a new pump and lake water intake system at the Meadowmere Park soccer complex. The new system will allow the fields to be irrigated with lake water which is better for the fields and more cost effective than using treated city water, according to the city.
The fields were previously watered with the lake water until the current lake-draw system, which was installed around 2013, broke down from age and several flood events. The replacement system has an improved design and is expected to be a longer-term solution.
Also of note
The council previously approved issuing up to $30 million in certificates of obligation to fund projects related to the city’s water and wastewater treatment plants.
