TEXRail train system to add station, extend to Fort Worth Medical District

Plans have been cemented for TEXRail to carry passengers from Grapevine and the Dallas Fort Worth International Airport deeper into Fort Worth. A Feb. 28 news release from Rep. Kay Granger, R-TX, announced the commuter rail system will extend two more miles into the Fort Worth Medical District.

The extension will be paid for with $38.9 million of leftover U.S. Department of Transportation-Federal Transit Administration grant funds, authorized to Trinity Metro, the transportation agency that runs TEXRail, according to a news release from Granger’s office.

“TEXRail’s expansion into the Fort Worth Medical District will improve quality of life and access to health care services, an especially significant win for our District’s lower-income residents,” Granger said in the release.

The new station will be located behind the Baylor Scott & White All Saints Medical Center by the Mistletoe neighborhood, a news release from Trinity Metro said.

“The Fort Worth Medical District is an ideal location for the next station because of the 40,000 people who work and visit that area,” Trinity Metro President and CEO Bob Baulsir said in the release. “Extending TEXRail is perfect for medical professionals, patients and visitors.”

A timeline for the extension has not been determined. The first steps will be to define the scope and to undergo a competitive construction bidding process, according to the news release.
