Lindamood sworn in as mayor, Wheat chosen as new mayor pro tem in Colleyville

The Colleyville City Council elected Place 3 council member Kathy Wheat as its new mayor pro tem as Bobby Lindamood was officially sworn in as the city’s new mayor.

At its May 17 meeting, the City Council voted unanimously for Wheat to serve as mayor pro tem. Wheat has been a Colleyville resident since 2011 and was first elected to her seat in 2017.

“Thank you all for your vote of confidence,” Wheat said at the meeting. “I’m proud to serve Colleyville.”

Christine Loven, Colleyville city secretary, said Section 3.06 of the city’s charter states that after the final swearing in of all members, the new City Council must elect a mayor pro tem to serve for a one-year term at its first regular meeting.

The decision to choose a new mayor pro tem comes as Lindamood, who served as the Colleyville mayor pro tem and Place 2 council member for six years, was elected as the new mayor during the May 7 election.

As per city charter, newly elected Place 1 City Council member Brandi Elder, Place 2 City Council member George Bond and Lindamood were sworn in at the May 17 meeting.

Lindamood’s first action as mayor was a proclamation changing the name of the Colleyville City Central Fire Station to the Richard Newton Central Fire Station to honor the former mayor's years of service.

“It’s been an honor to serve with you,” Lindamood told Newton.
