City of Southlake approves nearly $1M to purchase radio, video equipment for public safety

The city of Southlake agreed to spend nearly $1 million on various radio equipment for the department of public safety.

The council approved a trio of ordinances during a meeting Nov. 1 that will provide upgrades to the police and fire units. All of the purchases were already budgeted in the fiscal year 2022-23 budget.

The city will receive 82 portable radios to replace outdated models from Motorola Solutions, with the contract not to exceed $1 million. According to documents, the cost will be $750,068.

Another contract with Motorola Solutions was not to exceed $66,000 and the presented bid was $65,800 for body-worn camera video storage as well as WiFi in vehicles.

A third contract, not to exceed $78,000, was with computer and software company CDW-G for 5G cradlepoints, which provide internet access, inside police vehicles. The city documents noted all the systems in use are at the the end of their life span. Each new cradlepoint will have a five-year warranty and is used to upload videos.
