Daniel Sizer started his career with Weir’s Furniture in December 1980 as a delivery driver and worked his way up to become manager of the Southlake store about seven years ago. Sizer’s growth within the business is reflected from a company that “cares about their people and makes them feel at home.”
Weir’s Furniture was founded in March 1948 by furniture merchant J. Ray Weir on Knox Street in Dallas. Weir hand-selected the pieces and delivered them to Dallas residents. Nearly 75 years later, Weir’s Furniture has expanded with four locations in Dallas, Plano, Southlake and Farmers Branch. The Southlake location opened in December 2007, and the company prides itself on owning every part of the furniture-buying process, according to Sizer.
“We are a company that owns everything,” Sizer said. “Our company keeps a lot more inventory in stock in our warehouses than other furniture stores, and we deliver our own furniture, so it helps our people get their furniture faster than other places. We can usually have it to them within about four to five days after they see it in the store.”
Sizer describes the furniture store as “traditional,” but Weir’s carries a variety of pieces, both traditional and transitional. In addition to the amount of stock it carries, the store’s approach to sales varies from competitors as well.
