To improve functionality, manage capacity constraints and address an increase in motor crashes, Georgetown officials are looking to make necessary improvements on multiple intersections throughout the city.
What happened
Georgetown City Council received an update on citywide intersection improvements at its Sept. 12 workshop meeting.
Council provided feedback to staff on which projects should be prioritized.
Sorting out details
Transportation Manager Lua Saluone outlined over 10 active intersections across the city, all of which will be undergoing improvements in the coming years. The following intersections are included:
Saluone also mentioned a few intersections that warrant signals and some that have been identified as potentially needing traffic lights. The following were mentioned:
A few council members gave feedback on which intersections they deemed a priority. Two intersections, in particular, came up: Williams Drive at Lakeway Drive and Wolf Ranch Parkway at Rivery Driveway.
“I think on the Williams and Lakeway [intersection], ... more than anything, what’s important is getting the right-turn lane back in,” Council Member Kevin Pitts said. “I think that intersection will function better. ... Fixing the errors that we have now should be a priority for us because you can’t take a right there.”
Because of increasing traffic in the area due to new development, Council Member Amanda Parr said she supports improvements to Wolf Ranch Parkway.
“I absolutely would support the Wolf Ranch Parkway improvements there,” she said. “I think any of those are drastically needed, especially with the addition of H-E-B opening and all the additional traffic happening there.”
