New Precinct 3 constable sworn in to replace recently deceased Kevin Stofle

At a meeting marked by county officials mourning the death of Kevin Stofle, a new Williamson County constable for Precinct 3 was sworn in to temporarily fill Stofle’s role.

Matthew Lindemann was sworn in Oct. 5 as the new Precinct 3 constable, filling the position left vacant when Stofle died unexpectedly in September.

“This is a step we have to take as a county. Justice is important, and it must continue,” Williamson County Judge Bill Gravell said during the Oct. 5 Commissioners Court meeting. “Today we have to replace the constable. I believe there is an honorable man to step forward in that role.”

Lindemann brings 36 years of law enforcement experience to the Williamson County Constable Precinct 3 office, most recently having served the Williamson County District Attorney's Office as a sergeant investigator since March 2019, according to the county. A native Williamson County resident, Lindemann early in his career served in Williamson County as a jailer and a deputy sheriff.

Over the course of his law enforcement career, Lindemann has served as a Texas state trooper, served as a sergeant in the Texas Ranger Division of the Texas Department of Public Safety, was assigned to to Gov. George W. Bush's protective detail during his 1999 presidential campaign and became the first line supervisor for the Texas Ranger Public Integrity Unit in 2015.

“I look forward to this job. ... I‘ve worn several badges over my 36 years. I’ve been proud of each of them, and this will be no different,” Lindemann told commissioners.

The newly appointed constable will serve in a temporary capacity until the next general election in 2024, according to county documents.
