City seeks input on Downtown Master Plan

The Georgetown community is invited to attend a public meeting to discuss an update to the Downtown Master Plan and revisit the 2003 downtown plan.

Nore Winter, an urban planner involved in developing the 2003 plan, will provide some background information and discuss future opportunities for development in the Downtown Overlay District, the 40-block area around The Square.

"The goal for this first meeting is to assess the result of the 2003 plan and look at future opportunities for development," said City Historic Planner Matt Synatschk.

Following Winter's presentation, attendees will be divided into smaller groups that will review sections of the current plan and identify opportunities for growth, he said.

Since 2003, the downtown district has seen many changes, including renovations to the Williamson County Courthouse, the addition of the Georgetown Public Library, the construction of Tamiro Plaza and several streetscape projects, Synatschk said.

The updated plan will account for this new development, revisit the plan's original goals and consider new ideas.

Community members are encouraged to complete an online survey to offer their perception of downtown and express ideas for changes. The meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 6 in the Friends Room of the Georgetown Public Library, 402 W. Eighth St.

The updated Downtown Master Plan is expected to be adopted in February 2014.
