Editor’s note: Williamson County Commissioners appointed Steven Snell as the next county judge on March 27. Snell will be sworn in April 21.
Williamson County commissioners announced the names of four candidates being considered for the vacant county judge position during a March 25 meeting.
Candidates were chosen less than one month after former county judge Bill Gravell resigned March 11 to accept a position in President Donald Trump's administration.

Candidates will be interviewed by commissioners at the Williamson County Courthouse at 2:30 p.m., March 27. According to county documents, commissioners could appoint the next county judge that day, or at a later date.
Officials did not discuss the list of candidates beforehand, Precinct 2 Commissioner Cynthia Long said.
How we got here
On March 14, commissioners began a search for the next county judge. Interested candidates had about one week to send each commissioner a resume and cover letter, according to previous Community Impact reporting.
Covey said commissioners met with candidates as schedules allowed before each commissioner made a decision on who to interview ahead of the March 25 Williamson County commissioners meeting.
“I visited with a great number of people,” Covey said. “Thank you to all of those that were very interested in the role of county judge.”
