Frisco drivers to see downtown traffic switch

Frisco and area residents will see traffic flow changes as they drive through the Rail District. Traffic patterns will change in the area beginning at 9 a.m May 16.

The details

Street traffic will shift between First and Sixth streets, sending drivers along the new pavement on the south side of Main Street, according to a May 14 city news release.

Westbound traffic will be directed to the south side of the road west of Sixth Street and will shift back to the right side of the median at First Street. Eastbound traffic will continue straight to the new pavement at First Street but will shift to the north side of the road west of 6th Street.

From there, drivers will be sent back to the right side of the median at North County Road.

Fifth Street will reopen south of Main Street when these changes occur. A section of Fifth Street north of Main Street will be closed for about three weeks. Drivers who use Fifth Street from the north should use Third and Sixth streets as alternate routes to Main Street at this time.

This traffic pattern will remain in effect through the end of the year.

The background

Construction broke ground in the Rail District in June, 2024 as part of a revitalization project in the area. The improvements are all expected to finish in early 2026 and include:

• Widening sidewalks
• Constructing a Fourth Street Plaza with event stage and open space
• Rail-themed shade structures
• Building a parking garage
