Homeowners in parts of Frisco can expect to order retail items by air early in the coming year. But resident Greg Allbright got an early look at the technology from his own backyard.
Drone-delivery company Wing, a subsidiary of Google’s parent company, Alphabet, demoed practice flights at Allbright’s home on Dec. 2. Select items from a Frisco-area Walgreens will be delivered to homes in the city and Little Elm whenever the service launches. The test flights showcased the drones airdropping water bottles in totes onto Allbright’s back driveway.
Allbright said it “felt like a new day” when he and his children watched the drones deliver packages. He said they fly drones recreationally together often, and imagined drones being used commercially.
“It felt like I was really at the beginning of the future, at the beginning of being able to see something that's going to have an impact [not only] on my life, but also [my kids] and their kids,” Allbright said. “Their kids are going to assume that we always had this.”
