Frisco water taste change due to chlorine maintenance

Have you noticed a different taste in your tap water?

Melody Emadiazar, water resources manager for the city of Frisco, said the change is because of a chlorine maintenance procedure, but the water remains safe for use.

"During this period, consumers who are sensitive to disinfectant changes in drinking water might notice a change during this period," she said. "This palatability change does not alter the quality of the drinking water provided to consumers.

The North Texas Municipal Water District, which provides water to Frisco, scheduled the maintenance procedure at the NTMWD Wylie water transmission system and its water customers' distribution system from Feb. 17–March 17.

"The chlorine maintenance helps reduce the need for water suppliers to flush systems in order to maintain chloramine residual (required by the TCEQ) during the warm weather periods, thus conserving water," Emadiazar said.
