Frisco council names members to Charter Review Committee

The Frisco City Council at an Aug. 6 meeting formed and named citizens to a Charter Review Committee.

According to the current city charter, the charter must be reviewed at the longest every six years and no sooner than every two years. The last charter review was in 2009.

Frisco City Secretary Jenny Page said the committee is required to finish their review within a six-month period. The committee should be finished in late December or early January, which would allow time for a required public hearing on the changes. The council could then in February call for a special May election in conjunction with the council's annual election.

Frisco Mayor Maher Maso asked Page and the council if there are critical issues that need to be addressed, or if the city could wait another year before appointing a committee.

City councilman Tim Nelson said there are two pages of items from council members and city staff members that need to be addressed, along with changes from the Texas Legislature. He said the timing is good for a charter review and the council agreed.

Ten committee members and two alternates were chosen by the council. Page said she will be verifying charter qualifications for members and notifying them of the need to schedule meetings.

Committee members chosen were: Tracie Shipman, Ed Griffin, Bill Woodard, Mike Zapata, Tracy Gamble, John Classe, Jason Hartgraves, Kristie Edwards, Will Russell and Bobby Roberti.

Alternates are Cheri Russell and Dody Brigadier.
