Traffic woes will continue on 5th Street while construction continues through possibly as late as June from Main Street to Hickory Street, according to city staff members.
The road reconstruction project, which includes replacing some underground utilities, is allowing only southbound travel in a single lane, which will continue through at least the middle of March.
During the current phase of construction, northbound traffic on 5th Street will have to turn right onto Hickory Street and use South County Road as an alternate route to Main Street.
In late March, a traffic switch will take place to allow crews to begin reconstructing the west side of the road. At that point, only northbound traffic will be routed through the area in a single lane.
