City to spray for mosquitos Aug. 30 and 31

The city of Frisco will conduct ground spraying Aug. 30 and 31 after a mosquito pool tested positive for West Nile Virus. No human cases of the virus have been reported.

The area to be sprayed is on the west side of Dallas North Tollway and bordered by Lebanon Road to the south and railroad tracks to the west. The region is also a residential area with several small bodies of water.

This mosquito pool is in a different area from where a mosquito that tested positive for the virus was found earlier this month. That mosquito was from an area bordered by Coit Road, Rolater Road, Hillcrest Road and Canoe Road.

The spraying will take place from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night, weather permitting, according to the city's communications office. The city will use a fogger truck to emit a 300-foot swath of fine mist from the back of the truck.

The city encourages residents to keep themselves and their pets inside during the spraying. Residents should also refresh pets' outside water dishes the next morning, though pools with proper filtration should be unaffected.

If the truck encounters people or pets on its route, the driver will turn off the fogger until the truck is clear of the individuals.

As of Aug. 26, the Texas Department of State Health Services has confirmed 41 human cases of West Nile illnesses in the state, none from Collin or Denton County.

The department recommends people follow the "four Ds" as precautionary steps:

• Drain all standing water outside.
• Dress in long sleeves and pants.
• Use insect repellants with DEET.
• Avoid going outdoors at dusk and dawn.
