An election is coming up in November, and Frisco ISD may consider not opening any new schools for the first time in years. Here are three things to know this week in Frisco.

1. Coffee Talk with FISD leaders

FISD parents can grab a cup of coffee and have a conversation with Superintendent Jeremy Lyon and one of the board of trustees members. Parents can ask questions or share feedback on any topic regarding the school district. The Coffee Talk is from 8-9 a.m. Oct. 11 at the Independence High School library, 10555 Independence Parkway.

2. Last day to register to vote is Oct. 11

The last day to register to vote in the Nov. 8 election is Oct. 11. Typically, voters must be registered to vote in their county 30 days before an election, but the 30th day this year is Sunday, Oct. 9. Because Monday, Oct. 10 is a holiday, the last day for registration is Oct. 11, 28 days before the election. To register in Collin County, visit www.collincountytx.gov. 3. FISD board to consider delaying school openings

FISD board of trustees will hold a special meeting Oct. 13 to discuss whether to delay opening four new schools in the 2017-18 school year. Either opening or not opening the schools will affect rezoning for the next school year. The new schools include Memorial High School, Lawler Middle School, Talley Elementary School and Liscano Elementary School. This discussion was prompted after FISD voters turned down a proposed tax increase of $0.13. The tax increase would have helped make up a $30-million funding shortfall from the state that the school district will experience next year. The special meeting begins at 6 p.m. at 5515 Ohio Drive.
