Medical City Healthcare locations in Frisco, McKinney and Denton will offer anonymous prescription drug disposal services on Oct. 24 for National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, according to a news release.
How it works
In partnership with the Drug Enforcement Administration, law enforcement officers from local police departments will safely collect prescription and over-the-counter medications at each drive-thru location as part of Drug Take Back events.
Participating Medical City Healthcare collection sites include Medical City Denton, Medical City Frisco and the McKinney Fire Department.
Disposing of unused or expired medications can easily prevent them from being misused or abused, Medical City Healthcare Chief Medical Officer Alan Harmatz said in the release.
Ointments, lotions, drops and liquid medications must be in leak-proof containers. Vape cartridges must have batteries removed. Needles, syringes, lancets and illegal drugs will not be accepted, according to the release.
By the numbers
Around 7.2 million people aged 12 and older misused prescription pain relievers in 2025, according to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, though data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention showed a decline in drug overdose deaths.
Last October, Medical City Healthcare hospitals and partners collected 1,500 pounds of medication, the release states.
The specifics
Along with the Denton, Frisco and McKinney locations, Medical City will also host events at its Arlington, Dallas and Decatur locations.
Permanent drug take back boxes, sponsored by the Hospital Corporation of America’s “Crush the Crisis” program, are available year-round at 15 Medical City Healthcare locations, including Denton, Frisco and McKinney.
