Medical City Frisco debuts new robotic spine surgery system

Medical City Frisco’s spine team is the first in the world to use a new technology known as “active spine robotics” meant to perform minimally invasive surgeries with greater flexibility, according to a July 15 news release.

The new robotic surgery system uses tracking technology to continuously adjust patient movement during the procedure. It supports spinal fusion procedures in the cervical, thoracolumbar and sacroiliac spine, the release stated.

About the program

The robotic system enables surgeons to plan surgeries using three-dimensional images and it provides robotic guidance when placing spinal bone screws, the release stated.

“The integration of this advanced robotic technology is helping to transform how we approach complex spine cases,” said Isador Lieberman, Medical City Frisco’s medical director of the Scoliosis and Tumor Program, who performed the world’s first case at the hospital. “This system will enhance surgical accuracy which promotes faster recovery for our patients.”
