Two mosquito pools tested positive for West Nile virus in Frisco.
The positive pools were located at Copper Point Lane in the Village Lake neighborhood and Gardenia Road in the Hollyhock neighborhood, according to a June 5 city news release.

City officials will not spray at this time and officials will increase surveillance and intensify larviciding in the affected neighborhoods, according to the release. Larviciding is the targeted application of insecticides or other repellents to standing water to kill mosquito larvae before they mature.
These are the first positive mosquito pools in Frisco this year, according to the release. No human cases of the virus are confirmed in Frisco this year.
“It’s important residents stay vigilant and help reduce mosquito breeding by eliminating sources of standing water on their property,” Environmental Health Manager Jazalyn Harp said in the release.
The city tests for mosquito pools from May 1 through Nov. 15.

Residents are encouraged to wear, apply and remove as a precaution to mosquito bites.
- Wear: Wear long sleeves, pants outside at dawn and dusk when mosquitoes are most active.
- Apply: Use insect repellants every time you go outside. Approved repellents contain DEET, picaridin or oil of lemon eucalyptus.
- Remove: Drain standing water that collects in bird baths, French drains, clogged gutters, saucers under potted plants and "splash blocks" (at end of gutter down spout). The mosquitoes that carry WNV can breed in stagnant water.
