Frisco ISD could benefit from Toyota moving headquarters to Plano

In addition to the city of Plano, Frisco ISD could potentially be a big winner in Toyota's decision to consolidate its three separate North American headquarters into one new location south of SH 121.

Toyota announced April 28 the company would move its headquarters to Plano.

Although neither Toyota nor local officials have confirmed a specific location in Plano, several sites near 121 and Legacy are rumored to be potential choices for the headquarters, said Buddy Minett, a former Frisco ISD School Board trustee and current co-chair of the Frisco ISD Citizen Bond Committee.

If the new campus is built in the Legacy/SH 121 area as rumored, all or part of it could be in Frisco ISD's taxing district.

"A good portion of Frisco ISD's student population comes from Plano," Minett said. "This is big news."

Frisco ISD has four elementary schools and a middle school in Plano.

According to a Toyota press release, up to 4,000 employees could be relocated to Plano. Minett said that could mean not only big tax money for Frisco ISD, but tax money without Frisco ISD needing to accommodate an influx of new students.

"It's the biggest story in Frisco ISD that nobody's talking about," he said.
