The race for Place 5 on Frisco City Council now has two candidates.

Former City Council Member Tracie Reveal Shipman filed to run on Dec. 17. Shipman will face Laura Rummel, who filed on Dec. 8. The special election will be held on Jan. 29.

Shipman served on City Council from 1999 to 2003 and has been a Frisco resident for nearly 27 years. She currently works in leadership training and coaching, according to her election filing.

The special election is to replace Acting Council Member Dan Stricklin, who resigned on Nov. 26 to seek a seat on the Denton County Commissioners Court.

Filing for a place on the ballot runs through 5 p.m. Dec. 20. Drawing for a place on the ballot will occur at 4 p.m. Dec. 21 in the Frisco City Hall Council Chambers.

The last day to register to vote is Dec. 30, and the last day to receive an application for a mail-in ballot is Jan. 18.

Early voting begins Jan. 12 and will run through Jan. 25.
