Frisco ISD has introduced fare-based busing, a new service that lets eligible students ride an existing school bus route when space is available.
Families will pay a nonrefundable fee of $500 per student or $175 per student on the district’s free and reduced-price meal program for 2026-27 fare-based busing.
The service is intended for students who do not qualify for regular, district-provided transportation.
What to know
Fare-based busing utilizes available seats on current FISD routes, offering families additional flexibility for busing to and from 29 campuses.
The new service will be available at select campuses and is subject to capacity, according to the FISD website. Bus routes and stops will remain unchanged, allowing the district to offer fare-based busing within its existing transportation schedule.
How it works
Starting Nov. 2, families can complete a fare-based busing application form. FISD officials said families should allow up to 10 business days for staff to process the application and determine eligibility. Families will receive an email notifying them of the application status.
Students must attend a school within their assigned attendance boundary to be eligible for fare-based busing.
Families whose applications are approved will receive instructions to pay applicable fees online. Once payment is complete, routing information becomes accessible through My Ride K-12.
One more thing
School busing in FISD is free for eligible students who live two miles or more from their assigned school.
The introduction of fare-based busing services comes just over a year after FISD spent $3.28 million to add 20 new school buses to its existing fleet.
