Frisco ISD board approves 2023-24 academic calendar

There will be 170 instructional days in the school year with 87 in the first semester and 83 in the second semester. The district will excuse absences for all religious holidays.

Students will have no school on Sept. 1 and Sept. 4. Another long weekend is set in October, with no classes on Oct. 6 and 9, followed by a three-day weekend with no school on Nov. 6.

Thanksgiving break will still be a week long during Nov. 20 through the 24. FISD will start its winter break Dec. 22, and classes will resume Jan. 9.

In February, students will have a long weekend with no classes on Feb. 16 and 19. Spring break will be the week of March 11 through March 15. Additionally, no classes will be held March 29.

Two bad weather make-up days are scheduled for April 1 and 26.

The calendar was approved in a 6-1 board vote. Board member Stephanie Elad voted against the calendar, saying she wanted more time to think about the calendar being presented. Staff said it is recommended to go to the community for feedback earlier for next year’s process of planning the school calendar.
