Preliminary discussions of the priorities from the board included wanting an increase in parent involvement; equipping staff to ensure student behavior does not interfere with the learning environment; and creating opportunities for student growth that are curricular and extracurricular.

The approved statements are meant to be guides to action and are tied to FISD’s mission and vision, Smith said. They differ from goals that are quantifiable and reasonably attainable.

District officials along with the board will set goals for FISD after trustees approved the priority statements, Smith said.

“Priorities are meant to be aspirational in nature, and are meant to guide our work and say where the board thinks the district needs to invest time, energy and resources over the next year,” she said.
