Candidate packets available now ahead of Jan. 15 election filing start

Candidate packets are now available for those interested in running for an elected position with the city of Frisco or Frisco ISD.

Three positions with the city and two FISD board of trustees seats are slated to be on the May 2 ballot. The filing period for the election will be Jan. 15-Feb. 14.

From the city government, the positions of mayor and City Council places 5 and 6 will be up for election, while the FISD board will have places 4 and 5 on the ballot.

Those wishing to run for a board of trustees seat can pick up an application packet from the FISD Administration Building lobby. For the city’s general election, the candidate packet is available on the city of Frisco’s website at www.friscotexas.gov/formcenter/city-secretary-14/may-2020-general-election-candidate-pack-178.

Tim Nelson was first elected to the council’s Place 5 seat in 2011 and has reached his term limit. Jeff Cheney, who serves as Frisco’s mayor, and Brian Livingston, who fills the Place 6 position, were both elected in 2017 and are eligible to run for re-election.

In FISD, Debbie Gillespie was elected to Place 5 in 2011, as was Anne McCausland in Place 4. Both are eligible to seek re-election.

Polling locations for the May election will be determined in March, the city website states.
