Frisco is moving forward with plans for a new section of the regional Veloweb trail network.
During its Sept. 15 meeting, the Frisco City Council approved a funding agreement with the Texas Department of Transportation for further construction on the BNSF Veloweb Trail and Cottonwood Creek Trail projects.
The gist
The city of Frisco has been awarded $4.05 million, with $1.01 million in required local participation, through the North Central Texas Council of Governments transportation improvement program for the BNSF Veloweb Trail project and Cottonwood Creek Trail.
The Veloweb Trail in Frisco is being built as a 12-foot-wide concrete shared-use trail project east of the BNSF Railroad. The trail network is one of several planned segments that will extend approximately 10 miles through Frisco, connecting the city’s northern and southern limits.
Designed to connect more than 100 North Central Texas cities, the Frisco trail is part of the NCTCOG Regional Veloweb network, an approximately 2,200-mile shared-use trail system connecting local infrastructure in 12 counties.
The approved agreement will fund construction of approximately 1.2 miles of hike-and-bike trail along the BNSF railroad corridor from Main Street to Dallas Parkway.
What else to know
This trail was designated as part of the Regional Veloweb by the NCTCOG and is included in both the city’s and Collin County’s regional trail master plans.
The project is currently under design with construction expected to begin in late 2027 and last approximately 18 months, city documents state.
