Frisco mayor says longtime City Manager George Purefoy has set a date for retirement

Frisco City Manager George Purefoy has an official date set for his retirement: June 30.

Mayor Jeff Cheney shared the date during the Jan. 4 Frisco City Council meeting and said that council members will soon vote on a contract to conduct a search for the next city manager.

Purefoy was appointed as the city’s first manager in November 1987, according to the Frisco website. His retirement was first announced in a June 17 news release shared by the city.

A 34-year stint serving Frisco residents, supporting the city’s day-to-day affairs and facilitating rapid growth will come to a conclusion when Purefoy leaves his role. Cheney said further discussion will be held in the coming months on the search.

“We’re going to start this process of filling the enormous shoes,” Cheney said. “This is certainly not the end. So we've got a lot of work to do in the next six months.”
