Reliable Technology Services offers cybersecurity, workforce training in Frisco

Reliable Technology Services is changing how local businesses in Frisco think about IT and cybersecurity. 

Through partnerships with smaller businesses, sports teams and local students, Reliable Technology Services provides proactive IT and cybersecurity solutions designed to keep businesses secure and running smoothly.

The beginning

Founded in 2007 by Melinda and Jason Denton, Reliable Technology Services is a managed IT and cybersecurity provider headquartered in Frisco. 

The organization serves small- to mid-sized businesses, sports teams such as the Frisco RoughRiders, and larger organizations including PGA Frisco and Universal Kids Resort, providing proactive IT services such as backup management, log monitoring, and advanced security solutions to protect clients from cyber threats.

Jason Denton started Reliable Technology Services after hearing from small-business owners about poor experiences with IT providers. Drawing on his expertise managing an enterprise IT department, he saw an opportunity to give small businesses the level of IT support typically available to larger corporations. 

“49% of Texans work for a small business, less than 1,000 employees and I just feel like they deserve the type of experience that you get at an enterprise company,” Jason Denton said. “We felt there was a niche there.” 

What’s happening

Behind the scenes, Reliable Technology Services monitors clients’ systems, checks and restores backups, reviews security logs and works to identify and address vulnerabilities before they can disrupt a business or expose it to cyber threats. 

“It’s all of the little things that have to be done methodically, and we’re really good at doing all of the little things, because there’s not one silver bullet,” Jason Denton said. “People haven’t realized how sophisticated the threat actors are that are attacking small businesses.” 

One of Reliable Technology Services’ recent and larger projects includes an infrastructure and technology revamp of the Frisco Roughriders ballpark for the first time in over two decades. 

“We installed all-new fiber, new switches, new firewalls. We upgraded it to like 40 times the speed it was, and it’s the first time in (Roughriders) history that they’ve done a full revamp,” Jason Denton said.

Educating the community

Reliable Technology Services also offers internship programs to Frisco ISD and its career and technical education programs, where students can receive college credit, certificates and a letter of recommendation. 

Denton said student interns have moved beyond basic IT and office tasks, playing a key role in the RoughRiders’ stadium technology overhaul and giving him a firsthand look at the next generation of IT and cybersecurity workers.

“It was exciting watching the students do like 80% of the work. They were the ones running the fiber, connecting and programming the switches, labeling them, testing everything,” Jason Denton said. “Hopefully projects like that put a big feather in their cap.” 

What’s next

Jason Denton said that as Frisco and its business community continue to grow, Reliable Technology Services is taking on larger clients and gaining greater recognition among both local businesses and cybercriminals targeting them.

“Going back before 2007, our community is very entrepreneurial; we’ve seen business grow dramatically … our name is being talked about nationally and internationally,” Jason Denton said. “We’re partnering with organizations that want to protect their infrastructure because we are in the sights of these threat actors.”

As technology continues to evolve, he said business leaders will face growing challenges related to cybersecurity, AI and AI governance. For him, this provides an opportunity not only to protect more local businesses, but to help them safely adopt new technologies that support their growth and success.
