Celebrate Highland Village canceled due to rising water levels

Rising flood water prompted Highland Village officials to cancel Celebrate Highland Village, which was scheduled for June 8 at Copperas Branch Park.​

The annual event offers music, food and fireworks. City officials plan to hold it later this year; however, a date has not yet been announced, a news release states. The Marcus High School Cross Country and Track 5K Run, and the Highland Village Lions Club Family Fishing Derby will continue as planned at Doubletree Ranch Park on June 8, city officials said.

City officials said in a news release that Lake Lewisville's level is high from recent rain, and the water continues to rise. Representatives from Highland Village’s parks and recreation department as well as the fire department worked with the fireworks vendor to move the fireworks to other areas within the park.

“Unfortunately, each location has ended up underwater due to the rising lake levels,” the release states. “The water is also going over the entrance to the park. Additionally, the grand lawn area is saturated with water, making it unenjoyable for attendees to watch the concert, and enjoy the kid zone and food vendors.”
