The Argyle Town Council approved a request by the group representing Cactus Canyon—a proposed Tex-Mex restaurant that would be built off FM 407—to waive a distance requirement for alcohol sales near a school, church or hospital.
The action item drew discussion at the beginning and end of the meeting, as council first amended a town ordinance focusing on the distance requirement for alcohol sales and then voted specifically on the Cactus Canyon group's request.
Background: A team of restaurateurs proposed building Cactus Canyon between I-35W and US 377 back in November—on land next to The Well Community Church. Earlier this month, the town planning and zoning commission approved a rezoning request and what officials called a "Future Land Use Plan" amendment to allow for construction. The Cactus Canyon team, though, wanted to ensure that alcohol could be sold in the restaurant before moving forward.
What's next? Council approved a resolution waiving distance requirements and "allowing operation of [the] restaurant, Cactus Canyon on FM 407 near The Well Community Church of Argyle and property owned by the Argyle Independent School District."
