‘Kind of maxed out’: Texas lawmakers question whether state can afford to fund larger property tax breaks

Texas is spending $51 billion on property tax relief in fiscal years 2026 and 2027 and will be required to spend the same amount in future bienniums to maintain existing tax exemptions, lawmakers said.
