Counter Culture reentered Austin’s dining scene on Sept. 8, according to the brand’s Instagram. Led by owner Susan Davis, the plant-based restaurant now has a permanent location in Austin’s Windsor Park neighborhood.

During the soft opening, patrons can visit Counter Culture Tuesday-Sunday from 5-10 p.m. After the soft opening, the restaurant will expand its hours to offer lunch and brunch.
“We aim to be fully operational with hours from 11 a.m. to midnight, seven days a week, by mid-October,” Davis told Community Impact. “While we hope to host a grand opening, we are currently focusing on daily operations.”
On the menu
Counter Culture offers plant-based comfort food, as well as healthy and gluten-free options, Davis explained. The restaurant also has a dedicated gluten-free grill.
Diners can expect to see menu items like the Asian BBQ seitan skewers served over a bed of slaw. The grilled seitan is a fully plant-based dish. Counter Culture also serves up a BLTA salad, grilled oyster mushroom plate and jalapeno artichoke dip. Along with the scratch-made food, the restaurant also has a full bar with cocktails and non-alcoholic beverages.
"Whether you're vegan, vegan-curious or just here for a damn good meal, pull up a seat,” Davis said. “Everyone's welcome."
The history
Counter Culture had a previous food trailer, which opened in 2009, and later a brick-and-mortar, before Davis closed the location to build a purposeful space, according to its website.
For the restaurant’s permanent home, Davis and the team at Havens Construction and Weiss Architecture transformed an older building into a mid-century-inspired vegan diner, she said.
