More tennis and pickleball classes and events will be available at the Denton Tennis and Pickleball Center following council approval of a $1.35 million contract with Impact Activities at a July 14 meeting.

Tennis and pickleball events and management company Impact Activities will start teaching the existing Monday-Saturday tennis and pickleball classes in early August, city staff said. Impact Activities will also create more events based on community feedback. Council documents state the contract will allow the city to increase the frequency and variety of recreation programs and improve the recreation experience for participants.
The contract states the company will provide 60-to-90-minute classes for elementary, middle and high school age groups as well as adults. The contract also states that Impact Activities will run and organize tournaments at the tennis and pickleball center.
The contract includes a revenue split that will net the city 20% of the revenue from fees for the classes and tournaments. Council documents state the agreement will generate about $70,000 for the city each contract year.
Some background
The Denton Tennis and Pickleball Center opened in 2023 and offers classes and open courts. City staff said North Texas tennis event management company Bad Dawg Tennis provided tennis services since January. Impact Activities will take over from Bad Dawg Tennis in August.
The city also offers outdoor pickleball courts at South Lakes and Nette Schultz Parks, and indoor pickleball courts at the Denia Rec Center, North Lakes Rec Center and Denton Senior Center.
Looking ahead
The contract with Impact Activities is valid for one year, with an option to extend for up to five years.
Staff said the new contractors will take over the classes and events at the Denton Tennis and Pickleball Center on Aug. 2.
