Denton City Council approved $17.8 million to improve parking lots and sidewalks at city facilities at a June 2 council meeting.

Council approved contracts with pavement construction companies Alderink Enterprises, CI Pavement and Diamond M Construction and Land Services to perform parking lot repairs identified in a 2023 city parking lot study, council documents state.
The work also includes making American's with Disability Acts improvements outlined in the city’s 2022 ADA transition plan.
Tom Garner, the city’s director of facilities and fleet, said that while the contract total is $17.8 million, the city will only pay for the work performed by the contractors.
“The city will only pay for services rendered, and is not obligated to pay for the full contract unless needed,” Garner said.
By the numbers
The agreement covers parking and ADA improvements over a five-year period, starting in fiscal year 2025-26 with the contract ending in FY 2029-30.
Each fiscal year is budgeted for parking repairs, ADA upgrades and a 5% contingency, totaling $17.8 million.
Looking aheadCity officials will plan the scope of each individual project with the contractors ahead of the construction, according to the contract.
Garner said the contract can also fund sidewalk repairs for the areas around the city parking lots.
