Teriyaki Madness, a fast-casual Asian bowl restaurant, teamed up with Zipline, an autonomous delivery service, to deliver meals to its Denton customers via drones, according to a press release from the restaurant’s management.
How it works
As of Oct. 15, customers can place their Teriyaki bowl order using the Zipline app. The company’s drones will pick up the food from the restaurant and fly it to the customer’s location in under five minutes, avoiding longer traffic-burdened delivery times, according to the release.
Upon arrival, the drone can hover up to 300 feet in the air as the food is lowered on a tether.
“Getting bowls to people faster has always been the mission, and at some point you run out of shortcuts on the ground,” said Jodi Boyce, the chief marketing officer of Teriyaki Madness. “Zipline has more flight experience than anyone out there, so we knew our bowls were in good hands — or, really, in good drones.”
