Renovations on Briercliff Park in southeast Denton are set to begin this fall, city of Denton officials confirmed.

The renovations will begin in the fourth quarter of 2026, city staff said. A Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation filing shows that construction was expected to start Sept. 24.
While the filing states the cost of the renovations will be $4.1 million, the city confirmed the total cost of the project, including design, will come out to $4.21 million.
The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department awarded a $750,000 grant toward the park renovations, and the remaining amount will be covered by a combination of government bonds and park dedication and development fees.
Renovations include a new splash pad, paving, sidewalks and trails, playground replacements and landscaping improvements.
The backstory
Certificates of Obligation were used to provide the initial funding for this project and additional debt funding comes from the 2023 bond passed by Denton voters in November.
The renovations to the park come from Proposition C of the bond, which encompasses $33.45 million in bonds for the city’s parks system. That proposition passed by 64.65%, according to data from the Denton County Elections Administration.
Proposition C was put before a vote to replace aging playgrounds, expand trails and construct splash pads within the city’s parks system, city officials said.
