The Pony, a cocktail bar that includes a from-scratch restaurant, pottery studio and live music venue, is set to officially open at the end of August.
The details
The Pony will host a soft opening Aug. 23 from 11 a.m.-9 p.m., according to the venue’s Instagram page. It will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony Aug. 28 at 10:30 a.m. with the Denton Chamber of Commerce, then open in full capacity that same day.
The Pony will also be open from 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Aug. 24-27, according to its social media. Starting with the grand opening, it will be open Tuesdays-Thursdays and Sundays from 11 a.m.-9 p.m. and from 11 a.m.-midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. The venue will be closed on Mondays.
The Southwestern-inspired venue has table seating, bar seating and a small stage for music, which will take place on the weekends, according to previous reporting.
The venture is a family affair, with Jessica Madsen and her husband, Owen, running the kitchen and cocktail aspect of The Pony. Co-owner Dorian Marsh, Madsen’s son, serves as the director of entertainment for the venue and will be performing Aug. 28 for the grand opening weekend.
Marsh’s fiancée, Bella Tylen, is also a co-owner and will run the pottery studio inside The Pony. She will help lead workshops that will use air-dry clay, Madsen said. Guests can use mini pottery wheels and take home their art the same day.
Madsen said the food menu will be locally sourced and is inspired by authentic pizzas and appetizers from Rome. Some menu items include fresh olive oil tastings, prosciutto and melon bites, meatball sandwiches, pizzas like the prosciutto and stracciatella, and desserts from Denton-based eateries Ivan’s Treats and Two Gentlemen of Verona.
Drink options include cocktails like Pin the Tail on the Pony, a bourbon drink with lemon, honey and ginger beer, and the Last Light, a mezcal drink. The Pony will also have wine, beer and non-alcoholic options, according to its website.
Looking ahead
The Pony will offer small-scale pottery classes and handmade jewelry and artwork from local artists for sale by the front door.
The events page will also be updated for weekend shows and live music.
