Voters in Coppell and Irving can cast their ballots on Election Day, which is Nov. 5. They can also cast ballots during the early voting period, which began Oct. 21 and lasts until Nov. 1.
City of Coppell sales tax reauthorization
What’s on the ballot
“The reauthorization for a four (4) year period the local sales and use tax in Coppell at the rate of one-fourth of one percent to continue providing revenue for maintenance and repair of municipal streets or sidewalks.”
What it means
The city of Coppell is asking voters to consider approving or disapproving the continued collection of sales tax revenue for its street and sidewalk repair fund. Voters originally approved the quarter-cent sales tax for street and sidewalk repair in 2007. That means Coppell shoppers will not pay any extra in sales taxes if the rate is reauthorized. A vote for the proposition would keep the sales tax in place, and a vote against would remove the tax.
*projected if voters reauthorize sales tax
**projected budgeted amount for all of FY2019 as of June
City of Irving charter amendment
What’s on the ballot
“The change relates to removal of limitations on contributions for retirement benefits. Art. IX, Sec. 8, the total annual amount of the City of Irving contribution for employee retirement benefits is removed. If you are in favor of the changes, deletions or substitutions, vote FOR the Proposition. If you are against the changes, deletions or substitutions, vote AGAINST the Proposition.”
What it means
The city of Irving is asking voters to consider approving or disapproving the removal of a cap on the amount it contributes to certain employees’ pension and retirement plans. Irving’s charter currently limits the city from contributing more than 16.75% of enrolled employees’ total annual salaries. A vote for the proposition would allow the city to contribute more 16.75%, and a vote against would keep it as is.'
