Richardson-based nonprofit Network of Community Ministries announced the hiring of Abigail Kauffman as its new president and CEO, effective Sept. 19.

According to an Aug. 9 press release, Kauffman brings more than a decade of diverse experience in nonprofit and higher education to her new position. The release states Kauffman most recently served as the director of special projects and information services at Catholic Charities Dallas. Network of Community Ministries is a community-based nonprofit organization serving over 60,000 individuals annually in the Richardson area. The company provides community services that include food, clothing, utilities and rent; mobile food distribution; a dental voucher program; and more.

“Kauffman has a passion for our mission and will bring the energy to sustain the momentum for [the company's] future,” board Chair Monica Scott said in a statement. “She has experience in creating and diversifying partnerships and programs as well as empowering high-performing teams.”

The nonprofit has looked for a new president and CEO since Cindy Shafer announced her retirement April 4. A search committee has been seeking a replacement the last three months, according to company officials.

Kauffman will work with a transition team including board members and Shafer once she takes over the position this September.

“I am honored and humbled by the opportunity to serve as CEO alongside the staff, volunteers and stakeholder partners at the Network of Community Ministries,” Kauffman said in a statement. “As a Richardson resident, Network’s mission is deeply personal. I look forward to continuing to empower our neighbors as they turn to Network seeking an improved quality of life.”
