Richardson ISD plans to host a pair of outdoor Backpack Bash events that will offer families in need of the chance to get free school supplies as well as connections to services and programs offered by the district.

“As we head back to school for in-person learning, these events will connect many of our families with valuable resources in addition to supplies to begin the school year,” RISD Superintendent Jeannie Stone said in a statement. “Thank you to our sponsors and those who have donated supplies, materials and service to help our students begin the year on the right foot.”

The first Backpack Bash event is scheduled for 9-11:30 a.m. July 31 at Lake Highlands High School, 9449 Church Road, Dallas. The second event will be from 9-11:30 a.m. Aug. 7 at Richardson High School, 1250 W. Belt Line Road, Richardson.

This will be the second year for the Backpack Bash event, after RISD distributed around 3,500 backpacks last year, according to a news release. The district expects to provide around 5,000 backpacks this year, the release states.

Registration, which is required for each event, can be completed here.

At both events, district officials will also be able to assist RISD families that have not yet completed enrollment for the 2021-22 school year. RISD students who have not yet enrolled may also do so by visiting www.risd.org/enrollment.

The district's first day of school will be Aug. 17.
