Nearly half of Plano ISD students are signed up for fully remote learning when campuses reopen, according to preliminary numbers provided by the district.

More than 24,000 students opted into the remote option as the district prepares to resume in-person learning at some point during the 2020-21 school year.

The district announced July 17 it would begin the school year with entirely virtual instruction as a precaution against further spread of the coronavirus. Campuses will not reopen until Sept. 9 at the earliest.

The 47% of district students who signed up for the fully remote option will be eligible to continue learning from home after campuses reopen. Parents who signed up for remote learning will have multiple opportunities in the future to adjust their preference, including up to two weeks before the start of school.
