A vacancy in the Plano ISD board of trustees could be filled as early as Tuesday, a PISD spokesperson confirmed.

The board of trustees will convene in closed session Monday to deliberate over the possible appointment of a new board member. The vacancy in the board of trustees came after the abrupt resignation of former trustee Greg Myer in November.

If trustees approve a candidate, they will make the announcement of the appointment during their regularly scheduled meeting Tuesday evening, PISD spokesperson Lesley Range-Stanton said.

The board accepted applications from residents within the boundaries of PISD from Dec. 11 through Jan. 3, as previously reported by Community Impact Newspaper.

“We have developed a very comprehensive application that will help us to learn more about the candidates and their qualifications and their interest level and their experiences and what uniquely qualifies them to serve as a voice at the table in this body of seven,” Bender told reporters after a Dec. 7 meeting.

Myer, the former trustee, left a vacancy on the board after resigning for “personal reasons,” according to his resignation letter dated Nov. 20 and addressed to Bender.

Myer declined to provide further comment to Community Impact Newspaper regarding his resignation.
