Plano residents can expect to see some construction relief as 2025 projects wrap up and new asphalt overlay projects begin next year.

Summer construction work added 47 miles of overlays in Plano, accounting for about a third of the city’s planned overlay projects, according to a news release from the city.

Completed overlay projects include:
  • Hedgcoxe Road (Preston Road to Custer Road)
  • Midway Road (Spring Creek Parkway to Park Boulevard)
  • Parker Road (Parkwood Boulevard to Preston Road)
  • Alma Drive (Parker Road to Hedgcoxe Road)
  • Independence Parkway (Spring Creek Parkway to SH 121)


Plano has been working to improve the lifespan of city roads by adding new layers over repaired concrete through arterial overlay projects.


The program first began in 2017 as a test with Independence Parkway, according to the release.

City officials have budgeted $10 million in Plano’s 2026 community improvement program for upcoming arterial overlays, including:
  • Park Boulevard (West City Limits to Midway Road)
  • Parker Road (Independence Parkway to US 75)
  • McDermott Road (Preston Road to Coit Road)
  • Legacy Drive (Coit Road to Custer Road)

City officials are planning Parker Road to be the first east-to-west roadway to have continuous arterial overlays in Plano, according to the release.
