Van Taylor defeats challenger for District 8 Senate seat

Republican Van Taylor handily beat Libertarian candidate Scott Jameson for the District 8 State Senate.
The margin was 79.41 percent to 20.59 percent in Collin County and 76.73 percent to 23.27 percent in Dallas County.
The District 8 seat is being vacated by Ken Paxton, who is running for Attorney General.
"Tonight was a huge win for the conservative grassroots. From securing our border and stopping the expansion of Obamacare in Texas to creating jobs and limiting the growth of government, our state faces some defining choices ahead," Taylor said in a statement. "The people of Senate District 8 have spoken and expect Texas to meet these challenges head on with vigilant conservative leadership. I look forward to working with the people of my district to advance common sense solutions for our state to ensure Texas remains a beacon of freedom and opportunity to the nation."
Taylor is the current representative for House District 66, which represents Plano. He took office in April 2010. Taylor sits on the Insurance and Government Efficiency & Reform committees and a member of the Independent Conservative Republicans of Texas and the Texas Conservative Coalition.
Senate District 8 includes the majority of Collin County—Allen, Frisco, McKinney, Plano and Richardson—and part of Dallas County.
Results are unofficial until canvassed.
