McKinney City Council members are scheduled to receive an update on homelessness in the city during an upcoming meeting in November.

At a glance

Margaret Li, housing and community development director for McKinney, is expected to provide the update during a Nov. 18 work session. Li’s presentation includes the latest point-in-time count conducted earlier this year and upcoming projects in fiscal year 2025-26.

One such project is the Better Together initiative, which was approved by council members in October. City officials anticipate hiring a third-party facilitator in early 2026 to help develop a strategic plan and implementation plan to help address homelessness. Final adoption of that plan is expected in October 2026.

The 2025 annual point-in-time count was conducted in January and identified 213 individuals in McKinney experiencing homelessness, according to a city document. The count decreased by 26 individuals compared to 2024.
Also on the agenda

During a regular meeting scheduled after the work session, council members are also considering guiding principles for the development of a destination sports park and entertainment district located on 270 acres of city-owned land. City officials anticipate finding a development partner for the project, according to a city document. The land is expected to be developed for multiple sports opportunities and entertainment and hospitality opportunities.

Council members will also consider an official grant agreement with the Texas Department of Transportation for eastside airfield projects at McKinney National Airport. The grant funding was announced in June. The grant will partially fund projects such as a new taxiway and commercial service terminal.
