The Smash Yard, a 10-court pickleball facility, is slated for northwest McKinney, on the city’s border with Prosper and Celina.

Work on the facility’s site is underway, with opening projected for 2026, project officials said.

The specifics

The 30,000-square-foot facility will include eight indoor and two outdoor full-size pickleball courts. Pickleball enthusiasts and project representatives Santosh Sahoo and Anish Katyal said the new facility will serve the growing demand for pickleball courts in the area.

The high residential growth in the area north of US 380 also drove the team to select the site “at the heart of McKinney, Celina and Prosper,” Katyal said, noting that finding an available court in the area can be challenging.

“Pickleball is a sport that's picking up across the country, not just in McKinney,” Katyal said. “It's a craze.”

Guests at the facility will have both membership and open play options, and also have the ability to reserve courts, participate in tournaments and receive coaching. The Smash Yard will offer a variety of club-style amenities, such as:
  • A pro shop with pickleball equipment
  • A full-service bar
  • Lockers and showers
  • Private workstations
  • An event room
The facility will also include a children’s play area and a lounge area with gaming for older children, intended to serve as areas for families. Katyal said parents may struggle to find time to play pickleball when there isn’t anything for their children to do at the facility.

In addition to indoor family amenities, the project includes a site for food trucks to park near the outdoor courts. Katyal said the facility will host food trucks each weekend.

“They want more than just the sport, they want [the] community engagement that happens at a bar, that happens at the food trucks,” Katyal said of pickleball players.

Quote of note

“We want to get all the community together, have a nice family time ... and get a thriving pickleball community going with this,” Sahoo said.
