The set up
The jewelry store was founded by Jack and Fran Griffin in 1985 in McKinney. The business was originally located at Eldorado Parkway and US 75, and moved to the current location on Craig Drive in 2013, Griffin Jewelry Owner Justine Yi said.
Yi said she bought the business from Cherye Walker, the Griffin's eldest daughter, in December.
The jewelry store sells fine, fashion and bridal jewelry. Jewelry repairs including ring sizing, hinge repair on tennis bracelets and watch battery replacements, are available at Griffin Jewelry.
The store also offers custom jewelry design. Some custom work, such as repurposing a diamond into a different ring, is done by the in-house jeweler while certain projects are outsourced to other jewelers.
What’s happening
On May 15, the store will host an invitation-only anniversary celebration for their most loyal customers throughout the 40 years. During the event, a ruby pendant in yellow gold and a two-carat lab diamond will be given away.
“Cherye will be here with her husband Kurt, we'll have drinks—a sangria that we're calling ‘Cherye Sangira,’” Yi said. “It's [a time] to mingle, meet me as a new owner, catch up with Cherye and remember the memories. Over the 40 years, generations have been through these doors.”
Additional anniversary celebrations are scheduled for May 16-17 for walk-in customers and will include a chance to win a $500 gift card or instant prize.
